President's Column
By President Joyce Mak

A Blessing

Being the President of Kingspark for a month, I have the feeling of being one for 2 decades already! 1st of July marks the beginning of a new Rotary Year. Rotary International, Districts and Clubs around the world should also be very busy with their celebrations of welcoming the Rotary year of 08-09.

I have been attending all the different functions for the past month and I would like to share with you all. First of all, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all members, spouses, rotaractors and district officials for attending the club's installation celebration on 2 July. There were a total of 19 members and 15 guests attended the handover ceremony to witness the change of leadership. All of you had been my greatest audience and I was really touched by your kind patience. It would not have been such a memorable night without your great presence. It is fortunate for me to have a committed Board and the support of our past presidents. The Board and myself are ready to take up this challenge and I hope all the members would give us your utmost support.

My second task was to attend Ho Tung's 55th Anniversary Gala Night at City Hall on 3 July, it was a celebration night with teachers and students gathered together to prepare a series of great performances to showcase the students' talents. I'm impressed by the students' enthusiasm in performing English drama, Chinese martial arts, fashion show. The highlight of the Gala Night is the musical show: "My Fair Lady" and the night was really unforgettable! Congratulations to the Principal, teachers, students and alumni to witness the long history and because of their continuous effort, they have turned the school to be such an outstanding learning institution over the years.

Presidents, past presidents, other district dignitaries and of course our DG Albert have long waited for this day - District Installation on 4 July. Once in a life time experience of the 'marching in' opening has been the tradition for the installation night and I felt pride to be one of the presidents. With all 59 presidents standing on the stage, we all stood and received DG Albert's speech quietly and diligently. He concluded his speech by reminding us "In order to be successful, teamwork is needed", collective effort of all clubs in working on meaningful projects is essential and I believe all of us will do our best by leveraging our professional expertise. Congratulations to all the rotarians in receiving different awards by our PDG Peter Wong to recognize their hardship for the past year in achieving Rotary citations for the year of Rotary Shares. Special congratulations to PDG Alex in receiving the thoroughly merited Service ABove Self Award and also to our CP John in receiving a Rotary Foundation award. As being a member of Kingspark, I would like to express my utmost respect to them and Salute!

I can't wait to mention the best and fun part of this month - the long tradition of Kingspark Camp. It was successfully held on 18-20 July having a great turn up of over 70, with the great support of members and their families, rotaractors, guests, we all had a great time in Pun Yu and Kai Ping. Thanks to PP Ted for his great effort in organizing the event and special acknowledgements to PE Michael, PP Peter, PP Patrick, PP Winston, CP John and VP Stephen for being the hosts for dinners, luncheons and late dinners. This year's Kingspark Camp definitely marks an important event for all of us and especially myself as the start of the Rotary Year. I'm proud to have such a committed board to serve the members and I felt we do have a very strong bonding among the Family of Rotary. All in all, it has really been a blessing for what I have gone through this month and I have the absolute trust in God to give me the wisdom to complete the mission.
